The phrase chemical peel ignites a variety of feelings among users. Some people adore it (us!) while others shudder at the thought of it (think Samantha Jones in that episode of Sex and the City). But it is time to debunk some chemical peel myths and why everyone should consider one (or a series of 3 for maximum results!) this fall.
Myth #1: All chemical peels are the same
There are a wide variety of chemical peels that target different depths of the skin. We personally love the ZO 3 Step Peel. Administered by a medical provider, this is a medium depth peel that gives incredible results. The peel targets fine lines, sun damage, enlarged pores, melasma, acne and texture concerns. It has salicylic acid, lactic acid and TCA in addition to retinol cream. And antioxidants! There is no at-home treatment like it. The results are incredible.
Myth #2: Chemical peels are painful
False! There is minor discomfort upon application that only lasts for a few minutes, described as a mild burning sensation. Never fear because providers bring a fan to blast cool air on your face to alleviate discomfort.
Myth #3: Chemical peels require a long downtime
The total healing process for the 3 Step Peel will last one week. The first two days the skin is slightly red and then days 3-5 the skin flakes off. There is no need to hide out at home, however we would not schedule a peel the same week as an important work or social event. To further enhance your results, we highly recommend pretreating your skin for 4-6 weeks with consistent retinoid use. Check out our post from last week to help you choose your retinoid!
